It is every Yankee Candle fan's worst nightmare when their beloved fragrance decides to tunnel, leaving behind a whirlpool of wasted wax. This not only looks awful as the candle burns but also reduces the burn time, resulting in disappointment and frustration. It may seem that this is something that all Yankee Candle fans just have to put up with, but not any more. This month our Yankee Candle tip will show you how to increase the life of your candle by preventing tunnelling right from its first light, meaning you can enjoy your favourite fragrance for longer.candlelight-201627_1280

Starting Off On The Right Foot

Here at House of Harris, we understand the level of excitement that comes from receiving your brand new Yankee Candle. But resist the urge to light it straight away and you can enjoy it for even longer. The trick to getting the most out of your candle is applying a little care right from when you receive it. Start by placing your candle on an even surface and trim the wick down to 1/8 inch as recommended by Yankee Candle. This will prevent your candle from creating a large flame, resulting in a much cleaner burn. Ensure that you keep trimming the wick to the required length each time you use it.

Let Your Candle Burn For Longer

With the busy lives that many of us lead, some find it difficult to allow enough time for our candles to burn for long periods of time. This however is essential, as it allows the melted wax to reach the edges of the jar on the top, resulting in the candle burning evenly all the way down. A great Yankee Candle tip is to let your candle burn for a minimum of 4 hours (for large jars) when you first get it. This will help prevent a memory ring from forming, where the wax sits at the centre and a deep ridge appears around the edge. Continue to allow your candle to burn until the melted wax on the top reaches the edge every time you light it.

Invest In Some Yankee Candle Accessories

Yankee Candle Lid

There are many different accessories from Yankee Candle that help provide a nice clean even burn. One of the best accessories for this is the Illumalid, this sits on the top of your Yankee Candle Jar and helps to steady the flame increasing the chance of an even pool of wax forming. There are also different wick trimmers available that make the task easier.

Keep Your Candle Out Of A Draft

This may seem like and obvious step that all Yankee Candle fans insist on doing, but even the slightest draft can cause your candle to tunnel. If your flame is blowing in one direction, the heat will encourage the melted wax pool to form a grove. If you really can't avoid the slightest draft, try turning your candle every half hour to allow the wax to melt all the way around the jar. This should hopefully help your candle to last longer.

Yankee Candle shade and tray accessories not only look great, but also protect your candle from drafts, and defending your surfaces from heat transfer promoting a clean and even burn. Take a look at our range here.
